Chris Long is that person that has always been in a band, often as a vocalist and lead. Veronica Wirges is a classically trained woodwind and pianist, with a love for African tribal instrumentation. As odd of a couple, musically, as you could marry. So that is what they did, quite literally. They met, fell in love and got married.
The duo didn't rush right into things, and it was over a decade into their marriage before they played together. It wasn't until a series of once in a lifetime opportunities that kept assuming the couple played together that they gave it a go. And that is how Monsterboy LIVES came about. As you see what they create is something odd and a bit of a Frankenstein's Monster, an alchemy of genres that somehow works together and has a life all its own.
What to expect out of these two? A lot of creativity, saxophones, and guitars. And by saxophones - expect to hear a particularly unique 100 year old 5-foot-tall bass saxophone named Sweet Connie. The couple met at an underground rave, so EDM elements lace many of their tracks. The blues are at the root of the compositions, but don't be surprised when keys and world instrumentations are brought into the mix. It's an alternative rock steeped in the blues of the delta south.
Monsterboy LIVES songs are stories of a journey of two people madly in love, snapshots of the day to day lives of two artists finding their way in this world. The growing pains of nothing working out until you find where you belong. A narrative that connects with hopeless romantics and the creative spirit in us all.
Monsterboy has played various events and festivals since its creation including Nashville, Austin, all around Arkansas. The pair currently receives airtime on Arkansas radio from KABF, NPR, 100.3 the Edge, Shindig music, and Shoog Radio. As active members in their local LGBTQIA+ community, the power couple love playing events to help raise funds for displaced members of the community. The duo is also part of the Arts on Tour Roster, a program headed by the Arkansas Arts Council.
